The Allentown community located at the far east of the capital Freetown is amongst communities in the capital city that is grievously deprived of water facility. This has however caused inhabitants of the community a lot of socio-academic disadvantages.

Speaking to this medium the youth Chairman, Tigie Sesay disclosed that water crisis is not a new phenomenon to the Allen town community stating that a lot of effort had been made by the youths to contact stakeholders of the community on how to tackle this crisis.

He furthered that the acute water shortage seriously affects school going pupils, especially those that are charged with the responsibility of fetching water for their homes before going to school. “Many of them as a result of such constraints go to school late” he pointed out.

The chairman called on the government, the ministry of water resource, donor partners and community stakeholders to look seriously into the issue of water crisis in the Allentown community so that they will devise a strategy  to avert this precarious condition of Allentonians.

The ward coordinator Mr. Mohamed Yaraba Sesay stated that the problem of fetching water has resulted to an increase in girl child’s pregnancy in the community as he pointed out that children, especially the girls do make use of the opportunity accorded them to fetch water by contacting boys and engaging in clandestine activities that ends up to pregnancy.

He continued by appealing to the authorities concern to put on urgent measures in ensuring that adequate water facility is provided for the people of Allentown owing to the fact as citizens of this nation, it is the responsibility of government to ensure that they are provided with such a necessary amenity.
