MASS COMMUNICATIONS STUDENT WINS F.B.C STUDENT UNION ONLINE WRITING COMPETITION

Fourah Bay College University of Sierra Leone Students” Union Government has organized an online essay writing competition in enhancing the effective learning environment and regaining F.B.C’s past glory.
The competition was organized in relation to the recent pandemic that is hitting the world, Covid-19 which makes the Student Union body to organize the online essay writing competition to keep students fit in their academy work
The grand prize for the competition is One Million Leones which was funded by the student union body, university administration and Africell. The theme for the competition is “Rebuilding and Strengthening student’s research system in Sierra Leone’s premium institution of higher learning-F.B.C.”
Speaking to this medium, the Social Welfare Minister of Student Union F.B.C Abubakarr Dukullay who also serves as the Chairman of the program said their S.U government organized this competition to help improve the writing skills of the students, and for the university to regain its past glory.
Education Minister of Student Union government Madam Pleasant Koroma thanked the participants for their effort in taking part in the first online essay writing competition. She said there were two hundred and fifty students who applied for the online writing competition.
Ms Koroma said all those that did not win will take part in the next edition of the online competition that will be coming up soon. She said the winner must be very lucky to be selected among the five students that won the competition.
She noted that the reason for the competition was to engage students at home at the particular midst of the Covid-19 period, and they have already launched the second phase of the online competition, and for which they encouraged students to write, especially the female students, and they would be publishing the articles of the winners online for people to see.
President of the Student’s Uni Augustine “Diction” Bona said they have finally come to the end of the competition. He said this competition was organized because students are out of campus doing nothing, so the S.U. body thought it fit that they need to come up with something that will engage the students by coming up with the online essay writing competition.
S.U. President Bona noted the support given by the college administration. There were five winners, Ishmaila Jalloh from the Mass Communications department emerged the winner with a cash prize of One Million Leones.
The second winner is Emmanuel S. Gaima from the Law Department; taking home Five Hundred Thousand Leones. Emmanuel Suma from mainstream FSSL took the third position and Two Hundred Thousand Leones, and whilst the fourth and fifth winners, Unisa Deen and Anderson Lansana were given certificates of merit respectively.
The Champion Ishmaila Jalloh said it was not an easy task for winning the competition considering the fact that there are a lot of brilliant students that took part in the competition. He said it was after his first paragraph that he got inspired and said to himself “I will win the competition”.
He said the reason for being part of the competition was to build his research skills and wanted to be part of the history-making event. He encouraged all students to be part of the next online essay writing competition.
