The leadership of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party on Thursday 25th June, 2020 launched a countrywide Unity Micro Credit Scheme for the benefit of its members.
At an auspicious launching at the Unity Hall of the party’s Wallace Johnson Street headquarters, Chairman Dr. Prince Harding announced that the scheme will initially benefit five party members in each constituency with a loan of Le2 million. He assured that the amount would be increased gradually to a high of Le 5 million per recipient based on the success of the program.
Outlining the scheme, he said every month, five more people will be added to the scheme, stating that a repayment exemption has been accorded recipients for the next two months, after which each recipient is expected to repay monthly in six months installments.
Dr. Harding said the scheme was the brainchild of the party’s leader President Bio and that the fund was raised from donations. Non payment, he cautioned would deprive other party members from benefitting from the scheme. He therefore warned that the party will be angry with any defaulter.
To ensure the success of the scheme, Dr Harding said it will not be administered by an SLPP person, but independently by an NGO-CEDA, which will monitor and collect payments.
