The alarming proportion at which the coronavirus epidemic is ravaging the lives of people and devastating the socio-economic foundations of leading nations in the world is becoming so frightening that if not expeditiously wrestle with, will have the inclination to drastically reduce the world population, that Sierra Leone is still among the nations that have not recorded a single case of the virus, is a feather added to the cap of the leadership of the country and to us all the citizens who have assiduously work hand in gloves in ensuring that we abide by the rules and regulations laid down by medical authorities and that are enforced by government lackeys, to prevent the coronavirus from entering Sierra Leone.
As a nation that have gone through a lot of upheavals, stretching from the decade rebel incursion, that claimed the lives of many innocent Sierra Leoneans, to the Ebola virus that did not only massacred the lives of productive Sierra Leoneans but also devastate the countries fast growing economy to a shattered one, we are therefore mindful of the dangers involve in allowing the coronavirus to invade Sierra Leone, especially when our economy is almost in a state of muddles.
We in the covenant newspaper do appreciate the proactive actions taken by the government of HE Bio by declaring certain preventive measures which in any little way have contributed in containing the disease from entering Sierra Leone. We also extend our gratitude to fellow Sierra Leoneans who joined the president in the fight to ensuring that the virus is still yet to hit the people of this nation for we are of the strong conviction that an outbreak of the coronavirus in Sierra Leone at this critical economic moment will affect the country very seriously.
The covenant newspaper is alerting the leadership of HE Bio to remain focus in his pursuance on the fight to avert the coronavirus and to bear in mind that Sierra Leoneans will proclaim him best when he succeeds this fierce battle of containing the coronavirus from entering Sierra Leone.
In light of this, the covenant newspaper is of the opinion that the president must put aside all political guiles and ruses and concentrate in bringing the nation in tandem in the fight to preventing the virus from invading the country, as we vehemently emphasized that this is not the right moment to score and maintain political points.
Now that the president has suspended the landing of air flights into the country’s only airport in Lungi, the country may tend to be safe from migrants that may have the tendency to travel with the corona disease, but again, the covenant newspaper is of the view that the government must strengthen the process of closing down certain other public institutions as that will help in curtailing the spread of the virus. The covenant newspaper is also imploring the security forces and other law enforcing entities to ensure that the laid down precautionary measures by medical practitioners are fully applied by all and sundry because as a nation, the only we can contain the disease is to abide by the prescribed prescriptions o0f medical professionals.
