It was a joyous wet evening at the New Site Community in Bo City on Saturday 08th August 2020 as the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay went to Commission a new transformer for the community.
The New Site Community in Bo City is one community which has for over a decade and half now wallowed in darkness as the community had no transformer. Huge hues and cries for electricity had for long come from the community people to the Energy Minister who happens to be an indigene of the said community and this was the response to their cries.
The Hon. Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay whilst making a statement during the commissioning ceremony at Toyota garage, New Site flash backed that a delegation had on several occasions headed to his abode seeking his attention to their electricity menace. He continued that he had painstakingly listened to them all and had worked on them, hence his presence with them that moment. Mr. Sesay said that the community several years ago was served power on a 200kva transformer but he came to commission a 315kva transformer which will give the people efficient, bright and sufficient electricity. “I am from this community and so I will not be out and about giving electricity to other people, excluding my own people; charity begins at home,” Minister Kanja Sesay pointed out.
The Hon. Minister asserted to the community people that the tears for electricity from their eyes were not directly wiped away by him but by His Excellency President Dr. Brigadier (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio as he had promised the people of Sierra Leone a better life in every sector of the country. “I have commissioned this transformer here for you today, but I won’t be here to keep watch over it for you so that implies that it is the duty of every member of this community to secure it. Should someone cut a cable from it, you people will suffer power outage and I know you do not want that so look after it,” advised Alhaji Kanja Sesay.
It was explicit that the people desperately needed electrical power as they shouted praises to God, President Bio and the Energy Minister for restoring electricity to the community.
To show appreciation for the energy restoration to their community, the community’s chief, Brima Yankuba voiced that they are extremely overwhelmed for the energy restoration. He furthered that they definitely knew the Minister was going to harken to the cries of his people, for he knew him to be the man of and for his people. Chief Yankuba promised on behalf of his subjects to look after the new transformer, adding that he was personally going to ensure the gate to the transformer be placed under lock and key, and strictly guarded. On behalf of his community people, Brima Yankuba hailed and thanked President Bio for his magnanimity and profound leadership to not only his community but nationwide.
