LANYI FOUNDATION RECEIVED HUMANITARIAN HERO’S AWARD

LANYI Foundation, one of the leading Humanitarian organization in the country established by Mrs. Philomena Yumkella on Wednesday 19 August 2020 bagged the National Humanitarian Hero’s Award at the Harry Yansaneh Hall at the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists headquarters in Freetown.

The Grand awards ceremony was organized by Action for Youth and Children Network, a youth serving agency in Sierra Leone, as part of the celebration of the World Humanitarian Day,
under the Distinguished Grand Chief Patronage of Hon. Mohamed Hajji Kella, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare. The event was held on the theme: “Celebrating Humanitarian Heros and Heroines for sustainable development.”

According to the National Coordinator of AYCN, Mohamed Awuwah Kamara, the award aims at recognizing the efforts of individuals and organizations that are leaving their comfort zones to support vulnerable people for their relentless efforts in transforming the lives of vulnerable Sierra Leoneans.

After receiving the award, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of LANYI Foundation thanked the organizers for recognizing her work, stating that her organization together with her partners, during the out break of COVID-19, donated rice and toiletries to vulnerable people. She also disclosed that besides the rice distribution to Ebola survivors, and the Government of Sierra Leone etc., the partnership to serve Humanity, of which her organization is a partner, is involved in the distribution of other humanitarian goods and services to vulnerable groups all over the country.

She further stated that Together with its partners, Lanyi foundation has recently rehabilitated the St. Pauls blind school in Bo, constructed a borehole for the polio community at Grafton, and currently, they are constructing 10 disabled friendly toilets for that community.
