On Sunday 5th July 2020, the honourable member representing Gbonkelenken, Honourable Dr. Abdulai Daniel Sesay visited two of his largest Agricultural farms at Marafor village, Tonkolili district.
The visits of the MP was to broadcast twenty bags (20), of fertilizer to his one hundred and thirty five (135), aracas of Agricultural farm land in the community. As determination and commitments has always been preserve, the Member of Parliament who is always there for his people in terms of national and socio economic development in the country is expected to cultivate different types of crops including rice, groundnut, corn and okra.
Hon. Dr. A. B. D. pointed that he is embarking on the cultivation of the soil so as to promote, improve and alienate poverty in that part of the country, stating that his farming activity is of now supporting two communities with over two hundred farmers with monthly motivated salary and stapen so as to enable them be self-reliant.
According to the MP, he is confident that embarking on Agriculture would enhance food sufficient and consequently reduced the burden on government in the area of the importation of rice.
He also promised that; the farm will not only benefit him but also support other areas of interest largely the community adding that the production of the farm rice will also help to reduce the cost of providing nutrition meals to the children under age pointing that the proceeds from the sales of the other fresh crops would be used to help support other welfare. He encouraged other farmers and well meaningful Sierra Leoneans to compliment government effort towards food sufficiency for easier life living to engage community women and youths in the development of agriculture.
Farm Agriculturist Joseph M. Conteh commended the Honourable Member of Parliament for his loadable step towards Agricultural development. He call on government to support the MP to achieve his aim and goal in terms of Agricultural mechanical machinery like combined harvester, tractor among other things as the farm is too large to prevent wastages. He expressed optimism to cultivate high production that will enhance food self-sufficiency among other things.
