The Directorate of Peacekeeping in the Sierra Leone Police under the leadership of the astute Mrs. Gloria O.V. Tarawally (AIG) has, on Monday 31st March, 2020, completed the preparation of 160 Formed Police Unit (FPU) personnel for deployment in Somalia early September. Each of the 160 personnel was supplied with the under mentioned items as they were being prepared for the deployment of the first 80 personnel on Saturday 6th September; 1 pair rain boots, Rain coat, 3 pairs of uniform, 5 face towels, 1 sun glass, 1 big paramilitary travel bag, 1 pair boots, 1 pair socks, 2 polo’s, 4 facemasks, 1 pair Leone Star jersey
It could be recalled that the government of Sierra Leone made commitment, few years ago, to support the peace process in Somalia by sending Police Peacekeepers. The Sierra Leone Police has since been deploying Individual Police Officers (IPOs) and Formed Police Unit (FPU) contingents. The prepared personnel are the third contingents to be deployed following the rotation period of one year. All 160 would be Peacekeepers are now 100% alert and set for deployment.
