As part of her mandate to update Constituents on the day to day activities of Parliament while at the same time bringing Parliament closer to the people, the Member of Parliament representing the All Peoples Congress (APC), in Constituency 113 in the western Urban, Rugiatu Rosy Kanu last weekend brought together over one hundred bike riders at furniture junction in a bid to educate them on the functions of parliament, the promotion of a peaceful atmosphere and the development of the constituency.
In her opening remarks the Honourable member expressed firm appreciation to all the bike riders present at the ceremony and assured them that her door is always open to them to discuss issues bordering the development of the constituency and matters affecting their welfare.
She pointed out that in as much as advocating for the constituents is one of the functions of parliamentarians yet the making of laws of the state and serving as oversight to Ministry, Departments and Agencies are also some of the principal functions of parliament.
She confidently stated that in her very short period as honourable member of the constituency, she has engaged in several development activities in almost all the Corners of her constituency, suggesting to the bike riders the idea of holding monthly meetings so as to update them on the happenings of parliament.
Hon Kanu also informed the bike Riders that the annual payment of the Orugu hospital is done by her out of her salary and those governments’ only supplies drugs and gives other support. She further highlighted that such mandate does not fall under her purview but because of the love of her people she continue to do beyond her mandate.
She revealed to the bike riders her contribution in the rehabilitation of the onetime dilapidated Orugu road, the support she has been rendering to football clubs and many other organizations, as she assured them that her relationship with them will start henceforth.
The Chairman requested that the Honourable assist them construct a decent office at the junction that will be used to administer their administration. He furthered that the honourable provides them with okada bike loaning facility.
The chairman also called the attention of the honourable on their relationship with the police, stating that they suffered a lot of infringement from the police deployed at the Allentown Mayemie post.
The honourable member assured the bike riders that she would see how she could engage the leadership of the Allentown police station for mutual understanding between them.
In a related development, Hon Kanu also engaged a group of APC supporters known as “Concern Comrades” which comprises middle aged people that have huge membership across Constituency 113 and 114. The essence of that meeting was to update them on her function and at the same time giving them information on her development activities.
She informed them that she is currently constructing a multipurpose Ataya base, one of the biggest in the country. She preached the gospel of unity among members because with peace the SLPP will be showed the exit door.
“Let us put all interest aside for the furtherance of the APC party” she humbly requested. She further told the crowd that even though government has no longer given them Constituency Development Fund (CDF) yet she always utilizes her meager salary to improve the lives of her constituents. “With one mind we will capture 2023, no run off because the current government has disappointed not only members of the APC, but their party supporters as well” she concluded.
In his brief remarks, the councilor for Ward 401 Councilor Sheku Deen Mansaray made a pivotal submission in which he catalogued some of the achievements made by Hon Kanu therefore called on all to support Hon Kanu. Councilor Mansaray concluded by stating that Hon Kanu deserved to be supported because of her humble nature.

Climaxing the occasion was another surprising presentation by the MP, through her General Adviser who stated that a package of Le3, 000,000 (three million Leones) fund awaits Concern Comrades. Le200,000 was presented as facilitation for the group to present a unique and realistic project proposal. The chairman of the group showered words of thanks and appreciation to the caring MP.
