Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh on Monday 14th September, urged stakeholders to reach the benchmarks set by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on devolution.

Speaking at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Inter Ministerial Committee (MMC) Meeting at the Bintumani Conference Center at Man O War Bay, Aberdeen, VP Juldeh Jalloh outlined the purpose of the meeting, which he said, was designed to take stock of the decentralization process and adopt the toad map elaborated by the ministry of local government and rural development. The process, he said, started in 2004 with the establishment of democratically elected councils followed by the need to build both human and financial capacity of the councils.  The process, he said, in spite of immense efforts has been marred by certain problematic dynamics.

In the last two and half years, he said, government has been doing fantastic work in providing funding for the decentralization process and taken bold steps to devolution. He called on stakeholders to continue to work very hard to ensure the viability of the councils. The meeting was attended by several Ministers, deputy Ministers, professional heads and local council representatives. Key decisions were taken to move the decentralization process forward.
