On September 22nd 2020 at CCSL Conference hall, Kingharman Road, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development launched ‘mitigating the socioeconomic effects of COVID-19 in Sierra Leone project’.
Speaking at this ceremony the coordinator, Mr. Eric Massalay stated that Government remains committed to providing the enabling environment for NGOs to implement their programs in a peaceful atmosphere.
The Consortium of Organization’s, which comprises seven (7) National NGOs is funded by Bread for the World in Germany with the mandate to support the already identified communities that were heavily affected and inadequately supported to cope with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He noted the invaluable contribution played by the NGO community in the fight against the COVID-19 in the country, saying that the project was in the right direction and would help to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.
He furthered that the Maada Bio led government is proud of the role NGOs are performing in complementing the efforts of government in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the country adding that citizens should work collectively to harness the little resources to combat this scourge.
Mr. Mansallay urged the implementing partners to treat the project very seriously and involve the community stakeholders so that there would be a sense of ownership, which would ensure the sustainability of the project.
