Today, as the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development concludes its nationwide popularization and decentralization of the Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP 2019-2023) in Freetown, the Vice-Chairman of the Council of Tribal Heads in Western Area Urban, Sahr Orlando Gbekie, has said they should also stand front and centre in the government’s drive to bring the fruits of development to every Sierra Leonean.

He said in order to accomplish the government’s current vision for national development, articulated in the MTNDP, the principle of “leaving no-one behind” should be key, especially during the implementation period of the plan.

He made this statement, at Cathedral Hall in Freetown, where the Ministry continues the process of popularising and decentralising ownership of the Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP 2019-2023), similar sentiments were shared by the Chairman of Tribal Heads in Western Area Rural, Alhaji James Slowe, during the WAR engagement last week.

This process seeks to ensure the effective implementation and results of the ‘New Direction’ Development targets in the district.

As you may be aware, the Ministry has completed similar engagements in all the 14 districts in the provinces, including the Western Area Rural District.

The plan, which was launched by H.E. the President, Julius Maada Bio in February 2019 with the theme “Education for Development” seeks to reduce poverty in all its forms by improving the lives of the people of this country through education, inclusive sustainable growth, and building a resilient economy.

The plan is people-centered, giving stakeholders the collective responsibility to identify their key development priorities/targets for their respective districts. The event draws stakeholders from various strata in the district and the country at large with strict adherence to the COVID-19 restrictions and is being hosted at the Cathedral Hall in Freetown.
