Blessed with a compassionate spirit, a motherly disposition, and a genuine desire to compliment her husband’s unrelenting philanthropy, Mrs Elizabeth Massa Samura Kamura was yesterday at Lakka Government Hospital, the Milton Margai School for the Blind, the National School for the Deaf and the St George’s Home for the Aged. Her mission – to donate cash and food items worth millions of Leones to inmates of the four institutions in this season of Yuletide and goodwill.
Under the auspices of the Sam and Betty Kamara Foundation, Mrs Kamara has been mobilizing resources from friends, well wishers and her children based overseas to reach out to her less fortunate compatriots in Sierra Leone every year.
“This is never fuelled by any political proposition but by a genuine desire to reach out to those who, as a result of their circumstances cannot provide for themselves” said Mrs Samura Kamara.
A Matron at the Lakka Government Hospital, expressed gratitude to the Sam and Betty Kamara Foundation for the donation and pray that many more people of goodwill would emulate the good example of Mrs. Samura Kamara whom she said was no longer a stranger to them – having provided similar gestures to the hospital in the past.
Similar compliments were expressed by the heads of the other three beneficiary institutions. Perhaps, the most touching moments were at the Milton Margai School for the Blind and the National School for the Deaf where children with sight and hearing disabilities displayed remarkable communication and musical talents that nearly sent Mrs Samura Kamara and her team into tears.
Mrs Elizabeth Massa Samura is a retired Nurse who has worked in the UK before returning home to organise and facilitate her charitable causes. She has been married to Dr. Samura Kamara for over 30 years and she is an indigene of Pujehun District, Southern Sierra Leone.
