The Sierra Leone Police continue to search for the Ibrahim Sulaiman Kabia alias Bulgur, Frank G Conteh alias Mueller, Osman Sesay, Councilor Sheik Imam Kabia and Alhaji Sheku Conteh, the above names are believed to be the leading suspects in the Lunsar riot matter.
The Five people are on the run since they masterminded the riot on 29th April 2020. Ibrahim Sulaiman Kabia alias Bulgur is the youth leader that accused the Paramount Chief, Bai Koblo Queen the 2nd of misappropriating public funds meant for the development of the township. On the morning of 29th April 2020, this above names went further and accused the paramount chief again of bringing people to install the 5G polls which has been causing Corona virus and he has been paid a lot of money for that.
This people have been alleged of sent text messages to several WhatsApp groups calling for the Paramount Chief to be dethroned. The said text messages warranted the police to invite the youth leader (Ibrahim Sulaiman Kabia) for questioning and that invitation sparked off a massive riot as youths mobilized to free him. Hence, several buildings were burnt down including the police station, residences of the local unit commander of the police, the paramount chief and its vehicles. People were stab to death those that are in support of the paramount chief.
The youths are angered by the growing hardship and hunger that ravages the township due to the closure of Sierra Leone Iron Ore Mining Company. The suspension of the miner’s license resulted in unemployment and redundancies.
The police have arrived well over 50 suspects and they’ve been taken to padamba road prison. The suspects are held in prison and denied bail since their arrest except the five on the run. The police in a recent statement vowed to arrest the above names.
Meanwhile, human rights groups have intervened to get the suspects released as the matter itself is considered politically motivated and aimed at the people because they are linked to supporting the main opposition party.
