Kush is killing our young people every day. It has become a silent war in Sierra Leone. This dangerous drug is destroying families, communities, and the future of our nation. What started as something small on the streets has now turned into a national crisis.

Across Freetown and other parts of the country, many young men are dying from kush intake. The situation is heartbreaking. The Freetown City Council (FCC) has already buried more than 200 kush victims this year. The Western Area Rural District Council has also buried over 150 young people. These are not just numbers; they are real sons and daughters who had dreams and families.

This is no longer just a health problem. It is a national emergency that needs urgent and united action from everyone the government, the security forces, drug agencies, councils, and communities.

Police and security agencies must go after those who are producing, importing, and selling this deadly drug. The fight should not stop with the small dealers on the streets. We need to find and punish the main suppliers and those behind the business.

But this fight must be fair and professional. We should not use it to harass innocent people or target certain groups. The goal must be to stop the supply of kush completely.

The government has already declared kush a national concern. That is good, but we need real action not just talk. There must be enough funding to support the fight, build rehabilitation centers, and help local councils that are already spending money to bury victims.

Every district should have a proper plan to prevent, treat, and control kush use. Hospitals should be ready to treat users who want to recover. The government must also work with international partners to get support for training, treatment, and rehabilitation.
