AG Engages RSLAF On Governance and Constitutional Values

-Horton Command and Staff College, IMATT, Freetown – Monday, 20 October 2025—-The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, delivered a guest lecture to participants of the Senior Command and Staff Course 3 at the Horton Command and Staff College, IMATT, Freetown, emphasizing the vital role of the military in upholding constitutional governance and strengthening democratic institutions in Sierra Leone.

The Attorney General commended the Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) for their professionalism, discipline, and continued commitment to peace and national stability. He noted that the army’s contribution goes beyond defense, extending into the protection of democratic order and the rule of law.

Mr. Sesay’s lecture explored critical themes including the national constitution, human rights protection, gender inclusion, electoral reforms, and the role of the military in promoting good governance. He underscored that constitutional awareness and respect for human rights are foundational pillars for building a resilient democracy.

“It was a great honor to engage with our loyal and dedicated officers,” he remarked, reflecting on the interactive session that followed his presentation.

“Our discussions reaffirmed the shared responsibility between civilian and military institutions in safeguarding Sierra Leone’s governance architecture.”

The engagement forms part of the ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Justice to strengthen civic and constitutional education across all sectors, fostering a culture of accountability, respect for human rights, and inclusive national development.
