The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has refuted allegations that it has gone without rice supply for four months, describing the reports as false and unethical. The RSLAF maintains a steady and well-managed food supply chain to support operational effectiveness and maintain troop morale.
The RSLAF is working to support the government’s “Feed Salone Initiative” through various agricultural projects. Some of the initiatives include:

– Cashew Farming: A 550-acre farm in Mabalay, Gbakeh Loko Chiefdom, Port Loko District, where cashews are inter-cropped with beans and pepper.
– Animal Farming: A 500-acre land in Musaia, Dembeleyah Chiefdom, Falaba District, for animal farming.
– Fish Farming: A 250-acre land in Bumpeh Tabay, Gao Chiefdom, Bo District, for fish farming, which is set to commence soon.
– Rice Cultivation: A 600-acre farm at Yoni, Kamajei Chiefdom, Moyamba District, for massive rice cultivation.

The RSLAF has recently established and registered a company known as Lion Agricultural Company to oversee all its agricultural activities. The Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant-General Amara Idara Bangura, has assured troops that by 2027, the RSLAF will be well-equipped to produce a significant amount of rice to feed itself. This is part of the institution’s efforts to enhance self-sufficiency and support the government’s initiatives.
