The Parliament of Sierra Leone has approved 15 presidential nominees for various positions, marking a significant step towards strengthening the country’s development. The nominees were approved following a thorough debate and consideration of the Second Report of the Committee on Appointments and the Public Service, chaired by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Hon. Sahr Mathew Nyuma.
The approved nominees are
- Justice Masiyambay Bangura Chairman, Board of Director, Legal Aid Bored.
- Ing. Tideni Hawa Jabbi, Managing Director Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO)
- Mr. Festus Kallay Director General, Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC)
- Miss Margaret Martha Kaitibie, Member, National Petroleum Regulatory (NPRA)
- Madam Sidnella Sallay Nawie, Member National Youth Commission
- Mr Bashiru Bah, Member National Youth Commission
- Mr Mohamed Tejan Kellah Chairman, Sierra Leone Railway Development and Regulatory Authority
- Mr Josiah Paris Member , Sierra Leone Road Authority (SLRA)
- Mrs Josephine Anselma Metzger Member Board of Directors Sierra Leone Airports Authority
- Mr Ibrahim Sawanneh Member Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority Board
- Ing Mariwan Kallon Managing Director Guma Valley Water Company.
- Mr Victor Vandy, Member National Petroleum Regulatory Authority
- Mr Charles Lahai Member National Petroleum Regulatory Authority
- Lansana Koroma Member National Youth Commission (NYC) and
- Ing Pierre Palmer Director General National water Resources Management Agency.
Presenting the nominees to the plenary, Hon. Sahr Mathew Nyuma highlighted the rigorous process of interviewing the nominees, which included assessing their experiences, track records, tax obligations, asset declaration, and vision for their respective positions.
Members of Parliament commended the nominees for their qualifications and experience, urging them to prioritize the interests of the people of Sierra Leone. Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma, Deputy Leader 2 of the Opposition, emphasized the importance of justice and accessibility to all Sierra Leoneans, while Hon. Bernadette Wuyatta Songa, President of the Parliamentary Female Caucus, praised the nominees for their commitment to service delivery.
The Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, advised the nominees to be nationalistic and focus on performance, innovation, and results, avoiding corruption and ensuring development in their respective institutions.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Sahr Mathew Nyuma, concluded the debate, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving the economy, providing pure and accessible water facilities, and addressing energy distribution challenges.
The nominees are expected to work diligently in their designated offices, serving the people of Sierra Leone with dedication and integrity.
