Kolwezi, DR Congo – A plane carrying DR Congo’s Minister of Mines, Louis Watum Kabamba, and his delegation caught fire at Kolwezi Airport in Lualaba Province, southern DR Congo, today. All passengers on board were safely evacuated before the aircraft burst into flames.
Communication Adviser Issac Nyembo, an eyewitness, reported that the plane veered off the runway, leading to the fire. Although everyone escaped unharmed, their personal belongings were left behind.
Minister Kabamba was traveling to the province to assess the aftermath of a recent mine landslide that claimed over thirty lives.
