The Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) held its convocation ceremony on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Peace and Love Amphitheatre of the Goderich Campus in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The event marked a significant milestone for 1,246 graduates, with the First Lady, Dr. Fatima Bio, delivering a keynote address that emphasized the importance of technical and vocational education in driving national development.

In her address, Dr. Bio urged the graduates to remain committed to lifelong learning, pursue excellence, and serve their communities. She highlighted the critical role that women play in national development, noting that 60% of the graduates were women. The First Lady also commended the graduates for their resilience and determination, encouraging them to be courageous and innovative in their pursuits.

The Vice Chancellor and Principal of MMTU, Professor Philip John Kanu, welcomed the guests and highlighted the university’s achievements, including the introduction of new modules into the engineering curriculum, upgraded workshops for hands-on training, and research publications by academic staff. He also commended the First Lady for her initiatives that have impacted the lives of women and girls, particularly the Hands Off Our Girls Campaign.

The Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Professor Ramatulia Wurie, admonished the graduates to carry the touch of MMTU and celebrate academic excellence. She emphasized the importance of technical and vocational education in driving national development and encouraged the graduates to be job creators, not seekers.

The ceremony included the conferment of degrees, diplomas, and certificates, as well as the presentation of cash prizes, trophies, and certificates to the best students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the University Orator and the singing of the University Song.

This significant event showcased MMTU’s commitment to empowering youths through technical and vocational education, aligning with the President’s vision of Human Capital Development and contributing to Sierra Leone’s progress.
