There is no doubt about it that William Fayia Sellu is the first and only Inspector General of Police (IGP) since the origin or creation of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) who is and will always be proud to have made landmark achievements during his reign as the country’s police boss since he took over leadership in just two years.
He has worked hard to combat corruption by installing CCTV cameras and GPS monitoring systems in police offices and vehicles to control as part of combative measures in that direction and importantly to enhance accountability in all departments.
He has improved public safety by reducing serious crimes, protests and demonstrations through effective policing strategies.
The no-nonsense IGP has also enhanced community policing by reviving Local Policing Partnership Boards and adopting community policing to foster trust and cooperation.
Additionally, the IGP has also implemented digital transformation by introducing intercom systems at Police Headquarters and installing GPS on operational vehicles.
The welfare and infrastructure development is another key achievements the IGP has made by upgrading police facilities, including the Police Hospital and providing modern equipment and uniforms.
Through his initiative the SLP has conducted several training programmes for police officers including electoral security management, human rights, and international humanitarian law. The launching of anti-drug campaigns and establishment of rehabilitation centers for victims of drug abuse is another milestone achievemnt.
