The Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, has commended Africell for its sustained support in organizing the annual marathon event, which brought together athletes, sponsors, and dignitaries in Freetown on December 7, 2025. The event, which aimed to promote sports development and unity in Sierra Leone, attracted key stakeholders, including the Minister of Information, Hon. Chernor Bah, representatives from the British High Commission, and members of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ).

The Minister praised Africell for its commitment to sports development, stating that “Sport is life. It builds character, it creates opportunities, and it unites us beyond political and tribal differences.” The event featured various categories, including 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon runs, with winners receiving cash prizes.

The presence of SLAJ members was significant, as it highlights the importance of media coverage in promoting sports development in Sierra Leone. The event also attracted dignitaries from various political parties, demonstrating its significance as an annual sporting event.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding sports programs across the country, and Africell’s efforts are seen as a crucial part of this initiative.
