Ahead of Public Exams; Kids Advocacy Network to Distribute Radios to Girls.
One of the leading Child Advocacy Organizations in Sierra Leone, Kids Advocacy Network (KAN), with support from UNFPA, is all set to support the School Radio Teaching Programme with the distribution of Digital Radios to vulnerable girls that will be writing public examinations this year, 2020.
Executive Director of Kids Advocacy Network, Edmond Alim B Fornah said the move is part of the Network’s strategies to empower and transform the lives of vulnerable girls in a bid to further ensure that no girl is left behind in academic pursuit.
Edmond was addressing newsmen in Freetown when he used the opportunity to commend UNFPA for its supports, noting that the gesture will help girls to follow the live broadcast of Life Skills Teaching aired through various radio stations across the nation.
“As organizations, we want to ensure all girls are safe and excel in their public examinations so that is why we are doing all our best to implement such a program, which will help discourage issues derailing young girls like teenage pregnancy, child labor and child marriage among other issues that hinder child development”. Mr. Fornah stated.
The distribution is expected to start on Wednesday 22nd July 2020 with the East End of Freetown. The executive director further disclosed to newsmen that the donation will be done simultaneously with sensitization on COVID-19 prevention and control measures in the targeted schools.
Mr. Fornah called on adults not to abuse girls during this period of COVID when most children are at home and not in schools, warning further the Network will ensure that the law prosecutes anyone found wanting of abusing a child in any way.
It could be recalled that during the temporal closure of schools as a result of COVID-19 some months past to prevent the spread of the Virus, KAN launched an Online Reading and Comprehension Programme for Girls.
The Network also donated sanitary kits to vulnerable girls and boys, while further engaging young people on Coronavirus prevention.
In addition, KAN donated food and other items to vulnerable girls and boys during the lockdown, which according to Executive Director Edmond, the Network hopes to continue.
