The AMTA Medical College held its first graduation ceremony at the City Hall, Freetown, on February 7th, 2026. A total of 248 students from the Faculty of Medicine received their certificates, marking a significant milestone in their journey to become healthcare professionals.
The ceremony began with a moment of silence and the national anthem, followed by speeches from esteemed guests, including Madam Patricia M Bah, Chief Nursing Officer, and the founder and CEO of AMTA College, Mr. Alex Kamara.
In his speech, Mr. Kamara shared the story behind the establishment of AMTA College, citing his personal experience with his sister’s passing due to cancer and the poor healthcare facilities in the country. He expressed his pride in the college’s achievements and encouraged others to join the institution.
The valedictorian, Mariama Yamar Yama, a graduate of the Lab Department, expressed her gratitude and excitement to start her career as a qualified nurse. She emphasized the importance of laboratory work in the medical field and her commitment to serving her community.
The ceremony culminated with the graduates taking the Hippocratic Oath, marking the beginning of their journey as medical professionals. The event was attended by families, faculty members, and friends, who celebrated the graduates’ achievements and welcomed them to the medical community.
The AMTA Medical College has eight campuses and offers various programs in the Faculty of Medicine. The college has equipped its students with modern facilities and technology, preparing them for a successful career in healthcare. Graduates of the college have opportunities to work in five countries after obtaining their licenses.
