Babadi Kamara has been elected as the new president of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) with a decisive 43 votes, succeeding Thomas Daddy Brima. The election results were announced during the 2025 SLFA elective congress held at the Gateway Hotel in Lungi, with 55 out of 57 delegates casting their votes. Aminata Bangura received 11 votes, while Alhaji Umaru Bah garnered just 1 vote.

In the contest for Vice President 1, Alie Badara Tarawally emerged victorious, securing 42 votes against incumbent Harold Nat-Johnson, who received 12 votes, with one ballot left unmarked. Tarawally previously held the position of Vice President 2 in the last SLFA executive committee.

The congress commenced with an opening ceremony that included statements from various individuals, including FIFA representative Ahmed Ahmes Haraz, who confirmed the validity of the congress despite earlier concerns about the absence of key officials. Minister of Sports Augustus Teima urged delegates to maintain decorum during the proceedings.

The SLFA congress faced a temporary halt due to confusion regarding leadership in the absence of President Brima and Vice President Nat-Johnson. Article 37 of the SLFA Statutes mandates that the President preside over Congress, leading to a stalemate as delegates debated the next course of action.

The electoral committee chairman, Mohamed Bainda Esq., clarified the election rules, ensuring the process continued smoothly after some initial disruption.

In the elections for Vice President 2, Prince Kai Saquee won with 41 votes, defeating Christian Dauda Thompson, who received 14 votes. Additionally, the elections for three Ex-officio positions resulted in Mohamed Sorie Jalloh (45 votes), Kweku Melvin Lisk (38 votes), and Ramatulai Kamara (39 votes) retaining their roles in the SLFA’s eleven-man executive committee.

The election process has not been without its challenges. Notably, Benjamin Gordon was removed from the venue by police, which contributed to the earlier confusion surrounding the leadership of the congress. Mohamed Kallon, representing the Retired National Football Heroes, also left the venue before voting began.

With the elections concluded and the new leadership in place, Babadi Kamara is set to lead the SLFA in a critical period for Sierra Leonean football, following the disqualification of former President Thomas Daddy Brima by the SLFA Ethics Board due to allegations of fraudulent activities.

As the new executive committee prepares to take on its responsibilities, stakeholders in Sierra Leonean football remain hopeful for a new era of governance and development in the sport.
