Bike riders plying the route of Allentown and its environs have expressed their utmost disappointment over the negligence of police officers to protect their members from being robbed off their bikes by armed robbers who have been persistently harassing their members especially along the Allentown old road approaching Tableque Mosque.
According to the Chairman of the Bike Riders Association, Calabatown, Mr.Yakuba Jalloh a total number of five okada bikes have been robbed by robbers along the stated route, pointing out that on each occasion the riders involved are seriously damaged to the point of death.
He stressed that several reports have been made by the association to the LUC Calabatown police station, OC Fatoma on the matter, but according to him no action has been taken by the officer in command to salvage the precarious situation.
He continued by urging authorities concern to consider this issue very seriously as it has an adverse effect on the lives and properties of their membership and the community as a whole.
Speaking to the youth chairman Ibrahim Tigie Sesay he disclosed to this medium that the formation of the Community Security Volunteers (CSV) to serve as community securities during the night hours was a laudable initiative that mitigated crime rate in the community, especially in the angle of arm robbery. He said most of the houses situated in the old road of Allentown do not have security lights that will possibly scare away robbers and that due to the dark nature of the environment; robbers most times take the advantage to orchestrate their surreptitious actions with ease and confidence.
Welfare officer, Bike Riders Association, Calabatown, Mohamed Konneh furthered that more bikes were carted away with during the month of July and that all information relating to the missing bikes were reported to the Calabatown police station so as to help police with investigation but however to his disappointment no action was instituted by the police. He mentioned AQE 672, HLX 125 and AQJ 580 to be among okada bikes that were looted from their members by robbers. He also called on the attention of authorities concern to pay keen attention to their complaints and ensure that appropriate measures are put in place to arrest this menace.
