On Sunday 30th August,2020, Councillors of Grassfield and Brima Lane Communities respectively paid a courtesy-call to disaster victims at the Pentecost Primary School, Portee.
The purpose of this visit is to sympathize with the victims and meet with community stakeholders so as to look into the causes of such disasters in the community and to proffer solutions as to how to avert any reoccurrence. a
Councillor, Hannah Jaiah also known ‘Mama Na Wan’ appealed to the stakeholders and affected victims for her late intervention, stating that she was not informed of the exact gravity of the disaster. She furthered that it was only later that she came to the realization that even ward was affected.
She thanked members of the community who notified her of the disaster and assured them of her continuous commitment to the plight of the people she represents.
In concluding the engagement held with Councillor Hannah Jaiah, few resolutions were agreed upon ,to engage with other stakeholders including the Councillor for Ward 409,Fatmata Cecelia Williams and the two main Members of Parliament to go to the Freetown City Council among a few.
In another development, Councillor ‘Mama Na Wan’ immediately met the Councillor of Portee at the SLMB School, at 5pm to 6pm on the same date above, to discuss the way forward for the Victims affected. Councillor Williams informed her neighbouring Councillor Hannah Jaiah that she informed her ward Committee members to inform her about the said disaster but the Councillor ‘Mama Na Wan’ maintained that she was never informed about it . At a conclusion point of their deliberation, they ended-up in understanding each other and later, strongly agreed upon few resolutions for the Victims and action points to meet the Mayor and the disaster department FCC, including other relevant stakeholders.
