The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has provided an update on the ongoing drug-related investigations involving a Sierra Leone Embassy vehicle in Guinea. During the Ministry’s weekly Press Conference on October 21, 2025, Bah confirmed that Guinean authorities have completed their investigation and officially charged those arrested in connection with the case to court.
The investigation found no evidence implicating the then Sierra Leone Ambassador to Guinea, Alimamy Bangura, in any criminal involvement. His recall by President Julius Maada Bio was a discretionary measure, not a disciplinary action.
The Guinean authorities discovered seven suitcases containing suspected cocaine in a Sierra Leone Embassy vehicle, leading to the detention of two occupants. Those arrested have been charged to court.
The two countries are cooperating in a transparent investigation to ensure justice is served. Foreign Minister Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba emphasized that anyone found guilty of violating Sierra Leonean or international drug trafficking laws will face the full force of justice.
The case highlights growing regional concerns over cocaine trafficking through West Africa, a major transit route between Latin America and Europe. Sierra Leone is also battling the local scourge of Kush, a dangerous psychoactive drug. Minister Chernor Bah reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and collaboration with international partners to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse.
