Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, on Friday, 23 January 2026, warmly received the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Reem Alabali Radovan, and her delegation at the Office of the Vice President, in a meeting marked by mutual respect and a shared concern for the wellbeing of ordinary Sierra Leoneans.
Speaking on behalf of the President, the Government, and the people of Sierra Leone, the Vice President welcomed the high-level delegation and expressed appreciation for their decision to visit communities and see development projects firsthand, describing the gesture as a sign of genuine partnership beyond formal diplomacy.
Reflecting on the long-standing relationship between Sierra Leone and Germany, VP Juldeh Jalloh recalled the establishment of diplomatic ties and Germany’s continued support during difficult moments, including the post-conflict and recovery periods.
He noted that Germany’s commitment to rehabilitation, infrastructure, and development cooperation had helped strengthen bilateral relations over the years, making the partnership both active and impactful.
According to him, the courtesy call reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to walking alongside Sierra Leone as it continued to plan and implement key development initiatives.
Focusing on the human impact of the cooperation, the Vice President highlighted progress in education, women’s empowerment, and healthcare, areas he described as central to improving everyday life for citizens.
He pointed to increased investment in social sectors, reduced maternal mortality, expanded access to quality healthcare, and services reaching communities through mobile health initiatives.
These achievements, he noted, reflected a shared vision with Germany, in ways that placed people, especially women and vulnerable groups, at the heart of development efforts, with a commitment to doing even more in the years ahead.
The German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Reem Alabali Radovan, in her remarks, expressed delight at being in Sierra Leone.
She noted that it was important for her to see the country’s progress firsthand since the civil war and even through the challenges of the pandemic.
She commended the government’s development agenda, particularly the “Big Five Agenda” initiatives, highlighting achievements in security, women’s health, education, and youth empowerment, and praised the collaborative efforts between the governments of Sierra Leone and Germany, and organizations like the World Food Programme.
Minister Radovan emphasized that the strong partnership between the two countries was built on shared goals and mutual commitment to sustainable development.
She expressed eagerness to continue supporting Sierra Leone’s reforms and projects, noting that the visit, her first as Minister since 2021, signaled a renewed commitment to deepening cooperation.
