MMCET Students’ Union Executive Inaugurated

The new Students’ Union government of the Federal Republic of Milton Margai University of Education and Technology on Friday May 14th 2021 inaugurated its executive body elected in November 2020. This auspicious ceremony was hosted at the Great Hall of the Goderich Campus and was well-attended by a cross section of alumni among other distinguished personalities. The master of ceremony was the highly rated and popular comedian, Desmond Benya.

In his brief welcome address, senior lecturer Mr. Rogers, who deputized the Vice Principal and Director of Studies in flowery academic jargons that left the audience bemused entreated the new Students’ Union  government to be steadfast, united and focused.

The Senior Warden of Students in her remarks encouraged students to dress appropriately at all times and cautioned them about the type of impression one’s attire leaves on people cited herself as an example of one who came from a very poor background but was attracted to a Senior Lecturer in her student days which gave her a very good marriage and a suitable career.

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice in the new administration administered the oath of office to the elected President, Mr. Philip Koroma, a final year student majoring in Political Science after which he proceeded to swear-in the Governors of the three constituent campuses, his Cabinet Ministers and appellate commissioners. A motivating poem was read by a student of the university followed by lively singing and dancing performances from various students.

Vandi Kosia, who was sworn-in as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, introduced the President as a hardworking gentleman who has the college at heart and is working assiduously to leave a rich legacy behind.

In his inaugural speech, President Philip Koroma highlighted the achievements of his administration, extended his appreciation to the Academic Staff of the University for their support since his election in November, expressed his satisfaction at the positive transformations taking place on all three campuses of the University including improved hostels and toilet facilities and appealed for assistance to complete his flagship project which is the construction of an administrative building for the Students’ Union government.

After an update on the projects and achievements so far by the Secretary to the President and Head of Strategic Communications Unit, a request for pledges was made and responded to among the audience. This was followed by a sumptuous meal prepared by the Minister of Food and Social Welfare.

A conducted visit to the construction site climaxed the well-attended program.
