The Director General of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), Mr. Mohamed Mubashir Massaquoi, attended the Traditional Hospitalisation and Treatment Rites of the late Paramount Chief, Madam Theresa Vibbi, in Kandu Lappiama Chiefdom, Kenema District. The event was marked by a rich display of culture, tradition, and community unity.

During the ceremony, Director General Massaquoi made a historic intervention in support of the elderly population of the chiefdom. He announced the donation of over 100 National Identity Cards to aged residents, which he would personally cover the costs for. This gesture was met with massive applause, traditional horns, and chants celebrating the DG’s generosity.

DG Massaquoi emphasized his commitment to ensuring that no Sierra Leonean is left behind in the national identity system. “These elders have served their families, communities, and this nation with dignity. It is only fair that we ensure they are fully recognized and documented,” he said.

The Chiefdom Speaker, Chief Kenawa Gbondo, expressed gratitude for the DG’s gesture, noting that the demand for National ID Cards in Kandu Lappiama Chiefdom has surged remarkably. Over 1,000 residents have already registered their interest in obtaining identity cards.

In response to the Chiefdom Speaker’s appeal, DG Massaquoi reaffirmed NCRA’s readiness to decentralize and expand its services. He announced that a full NCRA registration team will be deployed to Kandu Lappiama Chiefdom to undertake mass enrollment and issuance of ID cards.

Beyond the donation of identity cards, DG Massaquoi also contributed a financial token towards the ongoing Traditional Hospitalizations and Treatment Rites of the late Paramount Chief Theresa Vibbi. His contribution was described by local stakeholders as a mark of deep respect for the late chief and the culture of her people.

The event concluded with residents expressing joy and appreciation for the DG’s gesture, describing him as a leader who understands the realities of rural communities.
