The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has provided essential relief items to victims of a recent fire at Tank Yard Field, located behind the Presidential Lodge at Hill Station, Freetown. The fire, which occurred on December 4, 2025, was caused by faulty electrification in one of the rooms and resulted in significant damage to 16 households.

The NDMA, through its Directorate of Relief and Response, conducted a preliminary assessment to determine the cause and impact of the damage. This assessment informed an immediate response aimed at alleviating the suffering of the affected families.

Each of the 16 households received a comprehensive package of essential relief items, including food, kitchen utensils, soap, buckets, mattresses, and school supplies. Additionally, building materials such as zinc, roofing nails, and wire nails were provided to assist in rebuilding damaged homes.

During the presentation, NDMA Director General Mr. John V. Rogers extended deep sympathy on behalf of the agency and emphasized that the relief support came directly from President Julius Maada Bio. He highlighted the agency’s broader vision, stating that it is focused not only on responding to disasters but also on strengthening prevention and mitigation mechanisms nationwide.

Deputy Director General Sulaiman Sowa Esq. educated the victims on the two main categories of disasters – natural and man-made – and urged the public to adopt safer living practices to protect lives and property.

Representing the Presidential Guard, RSM Mattia expressed gratitude to the NDMA for its prompt intervention and commended the agency’s role in managing disaster-related issues across the country.
