New Kambia MP Takes Oath Of Office

Following the passing of the late Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma, and in accordance with the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone as amended and the Proportional Representation System, Hon. Mohamed Shebora Bangura of Kambia District on Tuesday 11/11/2025 duly sworn-in, to represent the people of Tonko Limba in the said District.

In his declaration, the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas Esq., cited Regulation 2022 and the notification letter sent by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone to the Office of the Clerk of Parliament. He confirmed that Hon. Bangura had been duly elected to the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone.

Pursuant to Section 83 of Act  No. 6 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone and Standing Order 1(A) Speaker Thomas then invited the Clerk of Parliament to administer the Oath. The Acting Clerk of Parliament, Gilbert Bosco N’habay, accompanied by the parliamentary leadership, administered the Oath of Office for MPs to Hon. Mohamed Shebora Bangura, who afterwards was presented copies of the Standing Orders and the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone for procedural guidance and effective debate during the course of proceedings in Parliament.

During the ceremony, Speaker Thomas extended his felicitations on behalf of all MPs, by congratulating Hon. Mohamed Shebora Bangura on his election. He reminded the new MP that, as a junior member, he could learn much from his senior colleagues and urged him to study the Standing Orders and the said 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone in order for him to become an effective Member of Parliament. Speaker Thomas also stressed the importance of punctuality, noting that parliamentary sittings commence at 10:00 AM prompt.

The swearing‑in marks the beginning of Hon. Mohamed Shebora Bangura’s representation of the people of Kambia District in the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone.
