The Pan African Female Youth Leaders, Sierra Leone Chapter donated foodstuffs such as rice, palm oil, milk and sugar and bundles of water to the needy at John Thorpe Community in Rokel, Western Area Rural on the 4th of April, 2020.
This was done in a bid to help rescue those who face challenges in having a meal per day and who hold the greatest of possibility of going hungry for three days as a result of the three-day lockdown instituted by the Government of Sierra Leone, to be effected on the 5th – 7th of April, 2020.
John Thorpe Community is one of the communities that was badly hit during the Ebola Outbreak and it still remains prone to future disasters as most of the inhabitants live in a deplorable state and face lots of challenges in trying to make ends meet. However, PANAFYL S/LEONE succeeded in catering for majority of the children, including teenage mothers who can neither take care of themselves nor their children in the community and other communities in Rokel Village.
Speaking on behalf of the organization, the Country Representative for PANAFYL Sierra Leone Chapter, Ms. Fatmata Kamara said they were delighted to present the food items to the community because of the vulnerable nature of the people and assured them that, the donation will not be their last interaction with the community as they intend doing several other things for the people in that community and other deprived communities in the near future.
Pan African Female Youth Leaders Sierra Leone Chapter is a subgroup of Pan African Female Youth Leaders (PANAFYL) International, a female youth group operating in Twenty-Six (26) countries in Africa. It is a Non-Governmental Organisation seeking for redress against all oppressive tendencies, unfriendly policies, harmful practices, either governmental or traditional, against women and girls everywhere in Africa and beyond.
