On today’s date 25th November, 2025, at the Regional Police Headquarters, Port Loko, a cross section of the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone has engaged the Regional Commander North West, Mr. Joseph Ibrahim Lahai (AIG) and personnel from other divisions, to formalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to police personnel in the North West Region, which was signed by the Inspector General of Police Mr. William Fayia Sellu in August 2025.

Speaking to personnel present, on the purpose of the MOU, the Registrar for the Pharmacy Board Dr. Sesay noted that the content of the MOU is to empower or mandate the SLP to start effecting arrests and prosecute drug peddlers and to whosoever found in possession of drugs of any type without pharmacy License should be apprehended.
He continued that the MOU has mandated every police officer from every corner of Sierra Leone to enforce it without fear or favor and update them on the outcome.

Regpol North West thanked the Pharmacy Board members for such initiative as drug peddling has become one of the most increasing concerns in the country he has also been arresting most of them that he came across with, he said. He also assured them of the SLP unflinching support in curtailing these drugs peddling as he himself is a pharmacist by profession.
He also emphasized that in as much as the IGP has appended his signature on a document, it becomes binding to any police officer to execute that order with effectiveness and efficiency.

He promised to monitor , coordinate with Pharmacy Board and prosecute offenders as per the MOU.
He ended by appealing to the Pharmacy Board members to capacitate police officers by conducting a training session on how they should identify fake, substandard or counterfeit drugs so that the job will be easy for investigation and prosecution.
Thanks.
