“PRESIDENT BIO PRONOUNCED WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT AGENCY FULLY OPERATIONAL”

Addressing the Third Session of Parliament at its opening on Thursday 28th y 2020, H.E. President Bio told parliamentarians that pursuant to Government’s commitment to monitor and regulate our water resources, the National Water Resources Management Agency (NWRMA), which was set up by an Act of Parliament in 2017, is now fully operational with appreciable staff compliment and a five-year strategic plan developed.

He noted that there is an urgent need to review the 2010 National Water and Sanitation Act in order to align it with outcomes and indicators set out in Sustainable Development Goal 6.

NWRMA under the leadership of forward-looking Unisa Bangalore will deal with eight (8) Water Regulations – complaints handling procedures, licensing rules, consumer service, quality of supply, service provider reporting rules, water codes, bottled and sachet water production regulations, certification rules).

NWRMA has the mandate to manage and safeguard water resources at local, national and transboundary levels in Sierra Leone. Its purpose is to support the sustainable management of water resources, contribute to safeguarding domestic water supplies and work with the industry to help them understand their environmental responsibilities.

Its aim is to monitor, understand and report on the state of water resources, promote the importance of managing water resources, enforce water resources law and support the delivery of effective regulations.
