Korovy Val, Moscow, Saturday 6th December 2025: –

A Russian Humanitarian Medical Mission arrived today at the Freetown International Airport, marking the commencement of a major healthcare support initiative in Sierra Leone. The delegation was warmly received upon arrival, reflecting the importance of this collaborative effort between the Russian Federation and Sierra Leone.

Facilitated by Sierra Leone’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation, Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo with support from the Ministry of Health of Sierra Leone, the Mission is part of Russia’s broader programme of medical and volunteer cooperation with African nations.

According to the Head of Mission, Ekaterina Glok, the team consists of a diverse group of medical specialists who will be providing free medical services across major hospitals in four key regions: Freetown, Bonthe, Bo, and Kenema Districts.

The humanitarian deployment will run from 6 December to 26 December 2025, aiming to deliver essential healthcare to local communities while strengthening bilateral ties through practical and compassionate engagement.

“This initiative represents not only medical support, but also a deepening of cooperation and friendship between our two countries,” said Glok.

The mission team will begin medical operations immediately, working alongside local health authorities and hospital staff to offer diagnostics, consultations, and specialized care to residents in need.
