SLCB, ORANGE ‘BANK TO WALLET’ SERVICE DELIVERY APPEASED CUSTOMERS

The Sierra Leone Commercial Bank and the largest mobile service provider, Orange-Sierra Leone on Wednesday 16th August, 2020 launched a partnership that introduced to the banking public a bank to wallet service.

The partnership which facilitates money transfers for SLCB and Orange customers by allowing them to top-up their Orange Money e wallet from their bank account, and vice versa, has since got off to a roaring start, with thousands of satisfied customers that have used the service commending that it offers them 24 hours access to their accounts.

The service which has caught on like a wildfire in harmattan allows customers to use their mobile phones to securely transfer money between accounts at any time, without the need to go to a distribution point or to have any physical cash. SLCB customers can also view bank account balance and obtain mini-statements by SMS via the service. Customers that have joined the service can transfer amounts ranging from Le 10,000 (ten thousand Leones) to Le 15,000,000 (fifteen million Leones) per day from an SLCB account to Orange money and vice versa.

Notably, by enabling customers to link their SLCB account with their Orange Money account, this new service furthers the development of mobile financial services in the country in line with the Bank of Sierra Leone’s vision of wider financial inclusiveness in multiplying the gains of economic development.

The platform which highlights the importance of on-line banking and mobile telephony in taking convenient banking services to everyone, especially to business people and others living in remote areas where there are bank outlets. This easy-to-use system meets the demands of customers who already have a bank account and who want to use their mobile phones to carry out bank operations, wherever they are in the country and at whatever time of day.

Customers also benefit from the extensive network of at least eight thousand licensed Orange Money vendors in addition to SLCB’s nationwide branches, considerably increasing the number of withdrawal points. SLCB reports that they have seen amazing increase in the volume of bank transfers since the beginning of the successful partnership with Orange. Benefits of using the service include enabling customers to transfer money from their mobile phone to other account holders across the country.

It can also be used to pay electricity, water or television bills, buy air time for phones, etc.
