The former Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Hon Foday Rado Yokie, has officially handed over the Ministry’s documents to the incoming Minister of Mines in a ceremony held at the Ministry, on the 5th Floor of Youyi Building, Freetown on Friday 7 August 2020.
Before handing over, Hon. Foday Rado Yoke, informed his successors that when he assumed the office of the Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, sometime last year, he trusted to implement President Bio’s New Direction People’s Manifesto 2018- “Improving the Management of Mineral Resources ” in the country. Hon. Rado Yokie thanked President Bio for the trust and confidence he reposed in him to serve.
He expressed satisfaction with the strides taken so far within his 13 months of dedicated service as Minister of Mines, during which time he initiated legislative reforms to enable the sector to be properly regulated for the maximum benefit for the people of Sierra Leone. He added that Sierra Leone has a great opportunity now to attract investments.
“I want to assure you Mr. Minister, Timothy Kabba and Madam Deputy Ann Marie Baby Harding, of my fullest support with my Parliamentary, business and Ministerial experience to ensure that your vision and the transformational drive of the New Direction are achieved. You are my younger brother Mr. Minister, you’re dynamic with a good potential to move the sector and I will support you at all times for the betterment of our Government. My doors are widely opened to work together, “he ended
On his part, the new Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Musa Timothy Kabba, said that on behalf of himself and the Deputy Minister, Madam Ann Marie Baby Harding, they remain delighted and honoured to have been appointed by His Excellency, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio as Minister and Deputy Minister of Mines respectively. “We are aware of the task ahead, appointed by President Bio to take up this new responsibility in a bid to sanitize and make the sector better attractive,” he added.
He espoused that with dedicated staff, coupled with his fashion of democratic and pragmatic leadership and his operational and management experiences in the gas and oil industry, the new leadership will continue to engage mining communities and the companies to avert unnecessary misunderstandings that sometimes tend to derail investment. They’ll strive to attract capable investors into the country’s mineral market. “I want to assure you that I will continue to tap into your wealth of experience,” he ended the meeting ended in a gratifying mood.
