In responding to social media rumors professor Mallam O stated categorically clear that It is true that he was now Acting VC and Principal of Njala University, in addition to being the Statistician-General of Sierra Leone and CEO of Stats SL.
“I will act until the substantive VC&P is available to take up office” the Dr.Science disclosed to pressmen, adding that he will take biology to Njala University.
He continued that he has spoken to the Stats Council and his supervising ministry MoPED and that all of them endorsed the strides to assist NU during these trying times. The erudite professor furthered that he studied at Njala University and was President of the Students Union during his time of studies and also worked in the Department of Mathematics for two years before he left for further studies abroad.
He pointed out that he has stayed closely in touch with NU and have wonderful relationships with many admin and academic staff as he has been making personal financial contributions to NU while he was out of the country saying that he has also helped to publish some of the lecturers there so he has always identified himself to be a true Mokonde boy.
He expressed his honored and thanks to the Minister of Technical and Higher Education and the Almighty God for the opportunity to serve his institution even if for a few months and that he is going to mingle with competent colleagues, some are more senior than me.
He assured Sierra Leoneans that he is willing to work with the administration with respect for all and listen very well. “I will plead for teamwork and recognize every individual’s contribution to the collective success of NU” he requested.
He further stated that he has an effective DSG and Management at Stats SL with a great Stats Council, hence the few days he will be away from Stats SL in a week won’t make much difference as he proudly stated that the institution now has effective systems in place.
He informed members of the press that the institution has been approved by the World Bank on a grant of $30 million for which all hands will be on deck to ensure we deliver and make our institution and country proud. This grant will provide extensive refurbishment and expansion of all our office buildings here in Freetown and in the regions/districts, he assured pressmen.
He also stated that in the next five years the institution will be able to implement routine censuses and surveys and other statistical activities that will make it a WINNER of the national statistics office in Africa.
