Kambia District, Sierra Leone – In a significant breakthrough, the Anti-Smuggling Unit (ASU) of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) Customs Services department has seized a large consignment of tramadol capsules at the Gbalamuya Customs Post.

The seizure was made during a routine vehicle inspection on a commercial vehicle bearing registration number ARW 498. The consignment, which was under the custody of Inspector Saio Koroma, a Police Officer, has raised concerns about the involvement of law enforcement officials in the illicit trade.

A detailed inventory of the seized tramadol capsules reveals:

  • 7 wraps, each containing 20 boxes of 10 blisters with 10 capsules of 100mg tramadol
  • 10 boxes of 10 blisters with 10 capsules of 100mg tramadol

The examination of the drugs was conducted collaboratively by the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) of the Sierra Leone Police and other security personnel stationed at the customs post.

This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by authorities to combat the illegal transportation and distribution of controlled substances within the country. The involvement of a police officer as custodian of the consignment adds a complex dimension to the case, highlighting the need for vigilance and accountability within law enforcement agencies.
