Transport Ministry Concludes 2025 Annual Sector Retreat, Sets New Strategic Vision for Service Delivery

Njala Venue, Bo City, 21st November 2025 – The Ministry of Transport and Aviation has successfully concluded its three-day Annual Transport Sector Retreat, bringing together all government transport agencies under the theme “Enhancing Quality Service Delivery in the Transport Sector.” The retreat aimed to strengthen efficiency, improve coordination, and align transport-sector service delivery with the Ministry’s mandate and national development agenda.

The sessions focused on evaluating achievements, identifying systemic challenges, and mapping out the sector’s strategic direction for the next two years. Senior Permanent Secretary Edward Kwame Yankson emphasized the importance of uniting all agencies under the Ministry to reflect, evaluate, and plan strategically. He highlighted the need for clear strategic direction to make the recently added Sierra Leone Railway Regulatory Agency and the Sierra Leone National Shipping Agency effective and competitive.

Resident Minister South, Chief John Abu, commended the Minister and his team for convening the retreat, noting that the transport sector plays a critical role in national development. Director of the Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU), Sulaiman Phoray-Musa, praised the sector for exemplary leadership, particularly in performance management.

In his keynote address, Minister of Transport and Aviation, Ambassador (Rtd.) Col. Alhaji Fanday Turay, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to building efficient and sustainable transport systems. He emphasized the need for the sector to assess its progress and develop a two-year strategic plan to track progress and stay aligned with national development goals.

Director of Transport, Mohamed Hindolo Shiaka, presented on the topic “Planning for Sustainable E-Mobility for All” and encouraged all agencies to integrate e-mobility into their strategic plans. The Acting Director of Government Information Service, Emmanuel B. Turay, emphasized the need for trained and qualified information officers to assist in drafting robust and strategic communication activities and plans.

During the Transport Sector end-of-year dinner, awards were given to SLPHA as the best-performing agency for the year, SLNSA, SLAA, SLPTA, SLCAA, and SLMA, including some staff of the Ministry who won awards for longest serving, partnership, and discipline.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to fostering unity, collaboration, and excellence across all transport institutions as it works toward building a safe, reliable, and modern transport system for the people of Sierra Leone.
