Freetown, 21 September 2025
Four esteemed staff members from the University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH) are departing today from Freetown to Austria via Brussels for the Second Study Visit related to the SLEEK project.
This international programme will commence with a six-day stay in Graz, Austria, from 22-28 September, followed by an eight-day collaboration and learning session in Alicante, Spain, from 29 September to 2 October 2025. Hosted by the University of Alicante, the visit aims to enhance entrepreneurial pedagogy and skills within Sierra Leone’s higher education sector.
The SLEEK project, officially “Sierra Leone Education in Entrepreneurial Pedagogy and Skills,” is co-funded by the European Union and brings together Sierra Leonean partners—UNIMTECH, the University of Sierra Leone, the University of Makeni, Milton Margai Technical University, and Innovation SL—with European counterparts, the University of Alicante (Spain) and FH JOANNEUM University of Applied Sciences (Austria).
The UNIMTECH delegation includes Dr. Peter Umaru Kamara, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Team Lead on Dissemination; Mr. Osman Kemoh Sesay, Head of the Department and Specific Researcher/Lecturer on Training the Trainers; Mrs. Josephine Denise Kamara, Researcher/Lecturer on ToT and Deputy Registrar for Human Resources; and Mr. Anthony Usman Khanu, Grants Finance Officer in the Directorate of Research, Innovation, and Development.
The programme begins in Graz, Austria where the team will engage with FH JOANNEUM to explore innovative teaching methodologies and entrepreneurial frameworks.
The journey then moves to Alicante, Spain for an eight-day agenda, starting with a management meeting on 29 September to review project updates, quality assurance, and dissemination strategies, with Dr. Kamara leading the dissemination session and Mr. Sesay contributing to the training discussions.
From 30 September to 2 October, the schedule includes training modules on entrepreneurship fundamentals, competencies-based learning, and lifelong learning, complemented by study visits.
UNIMTECH’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Patrick Unisa Taylor, underscored the importance, stating, “This study visit represents a vital investment in our faculty’s development, enabling them to integrate innovative entrepreneurial teaching methods that will ignite creativity and self-reliance among Sierra Leonean students. Through partnerships like SLEEK, UNIMTECH is committed to producing graduates who excel academically and lead in building a resilient, innovation-driven economy.”
This initiative reinforces UNIMTECH’s dedication to empowering educators to inspire the next generation of Sierra Leonean entrepreneurs, aligning with national economic development objectives.
