In a decisive and impressive victory, the Sierra Leone male under-16 basketball team has secured its spot in the U16 AfroBasket Tournament. After defeating Mauritania in a two-leg fixture, with scores of 54-36 and 65-46, the team has qualified for the prestigious tournament to be held in Rwanda in September 2025.

Despite facing immense challenges, the Sierra Leone team never lost sight of their goal and displayed unwavering determination and resilience on the court.

The Gambia’s delegation unfortunately faced an accident en route to the qualifier. Furthermore, Sierra Leone itself faced its own setbacks, with four players being disqualified due to age violations and five others facing documentation issues. This left the team with only six eligible players to compete against a full squad from Mauritania.

However, the Sierra Leone team refused to be deterred and instead used these challenges as motivation to push even harder. Led by their coach, the team trained tirelessly and worked together to overcome the odds and secure their spot in the U16 AfroBasket Tournament.
