Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has praised the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) for organizing what he described as an excellent and dignified National Armed Forces Remembrance Day Service held on Sunday, 9th November 2025 at the Cenotaph on George Street in Freetown.
The Vice President, who attended the ceremony alongside First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, Chief Minister Dr. Moinina David Sengeh, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and top military officers, commended the RSLAF for the solemn and well-coordinated event.
Held under the theme “For a Better Future, Remember Yesterday, Act Today,” the service called on citizens to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in defence of peace and freedom. It honoured the men and women who fought and died in World War I, World War II, the Sierra Leone Civil War, and other regional and international missions.
Vice President Juldeh Jalloh and First Lady Fatima Maada Bio joined other dignitaries in laying wreaths in memory of the fallen heroes, expressing solidarity with widows, families, and veterans in attendance. The solemn ceremony was marked by emotional moments as war veterans stood alongside serving officers, diplomats, and citizens to observe a minute of silence in remembrance of the nation’s heroes.
Speakers emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of service and sacrifice. “It is because of their choices and sacrifices that we live in freedom today,” one speaker noted, urging Sierra Leoneans to uphold unity, discipline, and patriotism as lasting tributes to those who served.
The event concluded with interfaith prayers and renewed commitments to improve the welfare of ex-servicemen, widows, and their families—affirming that the sacrifices of Sierra Leone’s heroes will continue to inspire future generations.
