The COVID 19 treatment center at the government hospital in kenema,which has been in dire need of thermometers to expedite the prevention and limit the spread of the COVID 19 pandemic by way of measuring and monitoring body temperature of visitors and patients respectively at the treatment center, has been rescued by Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH). The latter on May 30, 2020; donated 30 pieces of IR thermometers at the hospital in Kenema to the DHMT through DEOC.
Presenting the items, the Project Officer of the German humanitarian organization, intimated that the items were procured with some funds from Irish Aid;meant for Linking Agriculture ,Natural Resource Management and Nutrition project. Santigie Kamara Kanu elaborated that they were responding to request made by the management of the hospital for forty pieces of thermometers. Santigie said, the said amount was ordered,but realised that four of them were faulty upon delivery;he assured its replacement by Monday -1st June 2020.It was revealed that each of them cost six hundred thousand leones (Le 600,000.00).A donation certificate was also presented.
Receiving the donation on behalf of DEOC, the District Health Officer(DMO)-Donald Grant;thanked the organization for their swift response,adding it shows their commitment to the fight against the enigmatic virus in the district. Donald said the donation was timely and promised,the items will be appropriately used for the intended purpose in the treatment center and in the community; during sentinel surveillance. But reiterated, priority would be paid to the treatment center,even though it already has some.
