Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) has honoured the leading mobile telecommunication company in Sierra Leone Africell on Friday 10th March 2023 at the Atlantic Lumley Hotel in Freetown during their 15th Anniversary celebration dinner.

The outgoing president of WIMSAL Femi Coker said that Africell has been a strong supporting pillar to the media in Sierra Leone, noting that Africell has always answered the call of the media providing assistance in different ways.

She highlighted Africell’s support in providing free electricity supply to over 50 Radio stations in the country, adding that Africell is supporting over 60 newspapers with a monthly advert contract of which the only Female newspaper “Women’s Voice Newspaper” is a beneficiary.

She thanked the not hard to reach management of Africell for their unrelenting support to the media by honouring their corporate social responsibility.

Receiving the award Chief Executive Officer of Africell Sierra Leone, Shadi Gerjawi thanked WIMSAL for recognising the tiring efforts of Africell in upholding their corporate social responsibility while congratulating them on their 15th anniversary celebration.

He noted that female journalists are very important in promoting free speech and credible news stories and encouraged them to do more.

He said that the award is a big honour for the company especially when it is received in March which is regarded as women’s month.

“I wish the new executive at WIMSAL all the best in their endeavours,” he said. Africell as a company will continue to work with every member in the Sierra Leone media ecosystem.
“Africell is open to working with everyone,” he concluded.
